Baby Electrical Hazards

Babies have been holding the same nature since the world started. They have been born innocent and cute. They do not know what is good and what can go bad for them. In this era of modern technology, as we are living in a global village, we see electricity to be something can not be thought of living without.

 On the other hand electricity has created many threats always. Adults know what electricity is but the babies are totally unaware of it as well as hazards associated with it. Baby electrical hazards always get the parents worried. Baby electrical Hazards are one of the biggest threats to a baby life and should never be ignored. A mother while keeping her little baby in the electrical swing or crib is concerned about the baby electrical hazards at the same time. She wants to see her baby on the baby monitor using electric wires and at the same time she wants her baby to be away from all the electrical appliances to avoid any baby electrical hazard.  

Causes and Precautions against baby electrical hazards 

The main reasons why some babies are prone to electrical hazards are listed here. The parents should take them into account while baby proofing their home. 

·         Electric Socket Reach:       Electrical sockets are within baby reach. This is the biggest danger to a baby. It does not matter whether switch has been turned on or off. A rolling baby is more prone to be inflicted with an electric current if sockets are within baby reach. So here it is recommended that the electrical sockets should be installed somewhere out of the reach of the children. Moreover electrical sockets can also be covered with a wooden or plastic lid in order to maximize the baby safety. It would be the best idea to install temper proof sockets. 

·         Home Appliances:    Electrical home appliances are kept in baby room. People having small houses might accommodate their electric appliances in their baby room ignoring the fact that they might pose a big threat to their baby. The case is more severe when any of the electric appliances needs repairs or waiting to be disposed off. So while you are baby proofing your home, you need to remove all the electric appliances from baby room.  

·         Uncovered Extra Sockets:Always try to make sure that extra and unused sockets are being covered by baby resistant wall plates. 

·         Switch Locks:          It would be a very beneficial option available to the concerned parents to install switch locks. These locks keep baby fingers away from the switches and a baby can not switch an appliance on or off 

·         Installing Nightlights:        Nightlights should be installed to guide your cute baby in the darkness. For this purpose some brands of light are available with automatic on/ off feature allowing the light to be turned on as the darkness prevails and getting it off when the dawn appears. 

·         Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters:         Installing Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters would surely make it safe for the baby and the adults as well. These GFCIs are easily available in the market and interrupt the power supply from the main source by shutting off the power if they detect any type of current leakage to the ground. 

·         Extension cords:     Extension cords should not be installed in a baby room. Such cords can be chewed by your baby. So keep it in mind while installing extension cords. 

Babies are light of the home. Their smiles are a very good source to brighten the faces of their parents. A mother is quite contented while seeing her baby smiling in its room.
